Film festivals, storied and upstart, have faced an incredible challenge in social distancing requirements. Yet there’s a silver lining for horror fans hungry for fresh films but fearful of leaving their homes. Five horror fests have joined forces to spawn Nightstream, a new virtual film festival hitting in October.

Boston Underground, Brooklyn Horror, North Bend, Overlook, and Popcorn Frights have teamed up to bring a freaky flood of films and special presentations to at-home audiences for a virtual event, running October 8-14 through the Eventive platform.

What does that mean? If you’re in the U.S., you can purchase a badge, to see 5-10 new movies plus events like conversations with Candyman helmer Nia DaCosta and American Psycho director Mary Harron. Those outside the United States can access the latter with an Events Only badge. The proceeds made from badge sales will go to the participating filmmakers and the five festivals to recoup COVID-19 related financial setbacks, as well as charities and small businesses local to each headquartered city. Simply put, buying a badge is a good way to help keep the festival scene kicking in these contagion times.

What does Nightstream have in store? Here’s the line-up, which boasts
Fantasia standout Lucky, the World Premiere of Sarah Paulson’s upcoming thriller Run, and the Word Premiere of The Doorman, which teams Ruby Rose with Jean Reno.
