The horror movies are out in full force this October. Well, that and the angel comedies. Two sides of the same coin, I suppose. Black Phone 2 didn’t get the same strong reviews as its predecessor, but it still scared up $26.5 million from 3,411 locations.

That was more than double what Tron: Ares brought in during its second week of release. That sequel slumped hard, seeing a 66.5% drop from its already paltry opening weekend. This brings its domestic total to over $54.5 million so far. Great soundtrack, though.

Good Fortune, a comedy directed by and starring Aziz Ansari, got surprisingly good reviews, but as we saw from the likes of The Naked Gun earlier this year, comedies are struggling at the box office, even with a notable IP attached. So, this one, despite the magic of Keanu, only landed at number three with $6.2 million. Sorry, Aziz, at least you have the Riyadh Comedy Festival money.

At number five is Truth and Treason, a historical drama about the WW2 resistance fighter Helmuth Hübener. It’s not a religious movie, despite the Angel Studios association. It earned $2,721,265 from 2,106 cinemas.

Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt opened wide this weekend, expanding its run to over 1,200 theatres. That led to a hefty 880% increase in gross, but it only scraped into the top ten with over $1.55 million. The This Had Oscar Buzz episode on this one is going to be intriguing.

In limited release news: Kelly Reichardt’s indie heist drama The Mastermind earned $104,215 from five places; Jafar Panahi’s Palme d’Or-winning drama It Was Just An Accident took in $68,021 from three locations; the documentary The Man Who Saves the World? made $17,000 from two theatres; Wisdom of Happiness, featuring the Dalai Lama, earned $13,737; German musical drama Köln 75 played to $9,500; and the delightfully named Fuck My Son! brought in $8,500.

This coming week sees the release of yet another Colleen Hoover adaptation, Regretting You, the Yorgos Lanthimos drama Bugonia, and the musical biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.
