We all get old eventually. Sooner or later we need to hang up our hat — and sometimes our bullwhip — and slide gracefully into our sunset years. That’s where Indiana Jones is in the late 1960s until his goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) shows up being chased by Nazis led by Jurgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen) and a host of hired killers. And then it’s a madcap race through some of the world’s most scenic cities, backed up by a mix of the Rolling Stones’ Sympathy for the Devil and John Williams’ classic score. They’re on a hunt for the Dial of Destiny, the latest MacGuffin that promises the Third Reich a chance at revenge and glory.

I don’t know how anyone can hear that tune without smiling. I sure can’t. I joke about this being the fourth Indy adventure, of course. Allegedly there was another entry after The Last Crusade, but I never saw it and I think if we all agree it never happened, we can will it out of existence. The cast for this looks brilliant; besides Ford, Mikkelsen, and Waller-Bridge there’s also Boyd Holbrook, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Toby Jones, and more. James Mangold of Logan and 3:10 to Yuma fame takes over directorial duties for Spielberg on this one, and writers Jez and John-Henry Butterworth have a decent pedigree as well, working on Edge of Tomorrow and Ford v Ferrari. There’s also David Koepp, who’s worked on everything, some of it good.

There’s a bit too much green screen in the trailer for my taste, but I’m still excited for this one. It looks like nostalgia done right. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premieres in theaters on June 30th.
