I’m not sure what demand there was for it. I’m not sure who was clamouring for it. And I’m not sure what kind of addition it might make to a film franchise that was essentially comprised of one stone-cold classic and two nigh-on pointless sequels. But the fourth edition in the Wachowskis’ Matrix series will be with us in a little bit over a year (May 2021). This time around it is only Lana Wachowski in the director’s chair, and though series staples Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are set to return as their still-iconic characters Neo and Trinity, it is around newcomer Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman’s Manta) that the movie’s as of yet unknown plot is to revolve.
As reported by Comicbook.com, Lana Wachowski seems quite excited to be returning to a world clearly quite close to her heart, saying: ‘Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends’. Your own excitement may vary, and may or may not be influenced by some brand new on-set footage that has just appeared. It’s…not exactly mindblowing, but it does feature Neo apparently giving up his old late 90’s iconic look for the much more modern John Wick style:
Bonus! Some fun looking stunt footage:
