We got our first peek at Dune: Part Three today. Denis Villeneuve’s film is being billed as the conclusion to the series, which is bad news for sandworm devotees and Brian Herbert fans (I’m sure there are a few out there.) Based on the second book in the saga, Dune Messiah, this film will show Leto Atreides’ jihad in action as his status as messiah of the Fremen leads to the murders of literally billions of people.
If Dune parts one and two were about the formation of a hero, the sequel is about the dangers of elevating mere mortals to the status of gods. The idea of seeing it on the big screen is extremely enticing, and Villeneuve certainly seems capable of pulling it off. But if this is really the end of Legendary making Dune movies, I am going to need some flashforwards so we can see human-sandworm hybrids. Denis, you know you want to.
The cast includes Timothee Chalamet in the lead, as well as returning stars Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Charlotte Rampling, and Jason Momoa (spoilers? It’s in the trailer, people!) Florence Pugh gets a bigger role as Princess Irulan, and joining the cast is Robert Pattinson. I cannot wait to see what weird accent he does. Leto and Chani’s kids will be played by newcomers Ida Brooke and Nakoa-Wolf Momoa. Yes, the latter is the son of Jason.
Dune: Part Three will premiere in cinemas on December 18, 2026.
