Stop what you’re doing and watch the trailer for Studio Ghibli’s new film The Boy And The Heron. In this semi-autobiographical story, Hayao Miyazaki has created a beautiful, ethereal meditation on grief and loss that follows Mahito into a world shared by the living and the dead in search of the mother he has lost.

The Boy And The Heron opens in theaters on December 8th.

Japan is just giving us gifts this week. Takashi Yamazaki has written and directed a new Godzilla movie that blows the recent Legendary Pictures/Warner Bros Godzilla movies off of the map. As it should. Welcome home, big guy.

Godzilla Minus One will be in theaters on December 1st.

As though they heard my trash-talk, Apple TV+ dropped a trailer for the latest installment in the “Monsterverse” franchise, Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters. The ten-episode series stars Christopher Heyerdahl, Mari Yamamoto, and Qyoko Kudo. It also features Kurt and Wyatt Russell.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters will begin streaming on Apple TV+ on November 17th.

This week’s lagniappe is for anyone who has had enough of the exquisite beauty of loss and giant monsters. Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget is the much-anticipated sequel to 2000’s Chicken Run. Dear Lord, has it really been 23 years? These are the oldest chickens on the planet. You can catch them on Netflix beginning December 15th.
