We’ve been plagued by reboots, prequels, sequels, and reborquels, since the pandemic “ended.” While the range of quality in these movies has been broad, there’s a great deal of comfort in revisiting favorite characters and places. And Beetlejuice is the ghost with the most, baby!

The upcoming sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, reunites many of the original team behind the beloved 36-year-old screwball comedy. Tim Burton’s whimsically grotesque production design and Michael Keaton’s hijinks have always been the key to making this work. Add Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, reprising their roles as Lydia and Delia Deetz, and now you’re cooking. They’re joined by Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, and Willem Dafoe to tell the story of what happens when the Deetzes open the portal to the Afterlife again.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be released in theaters internationally on September 4th and in the US on the 6th.

Poolman was on our list of the most anticipated films of this past festival season. The audience reaction at TIFF was … not positive. But that shouldn’t stop you from checking out the trailer for the movie written, directed by, and starring (Best) Chris Pine. While the fancy film festival people might not have liked it, Poolman may be terrible enough to catch on as a cult classic. It worked for Starship Troopers.

Poolman is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 10th.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but we need to have a serious discussion about whateverthehell this is they’re calling Harold And The Purple Crayon. Crockett Johnson’s 1955 book is a timeless classic about the beauty of imagination and the power of resilience. In it, Harold is an adorably non-descript kid in footy pajamas who defaces every page with wonderful purple illustrations. The book is almost 70 years old and has survived thus far with only one short-lived animated series. Who asked for a live-action movie to be made?

Not only is this ill-conceived monstrosity live-action but it’s also about a grown-up! And that grown-up is Zachary Levi! We know he’s a man-child, but he’s the worst man-child. How dare they defile Harold by casting this chooch! Casting Chris Pratt as Mario was bad. Definitely not great. But it did not intrinsically change the nature of the Super Mario Bros. This Harold And The Purple Crayon is a mess. Why would you do this, Sony Pictures?
