Eli Roth is the twisted mind that brought audiences horror films like the sickening Cabin Fever, the torture porn touchstone Hostel, and the insanely misogynistic Knock Knock. So what’s his follow-up to the trigger-happy mess that is Bruce Willis’s Death Wish? It’s a kids movie called The House with a Clock in its Walls, which stars Cate Blanchett and Jack Black. Because sure why not.
It’s basically a horror movie, but you know, for kids.
“There’s a clock in the walls. We don’t know what it does, except something horrible.”
Based on the popular children’s book written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey,
The House with a Clock in its Walls centers on the spooky misadventures of a 10-year-old orphan named Lewis Barnavelt (Owen Vaccaro), who finds mystery and danger in the strange house he shares with his unusual uncle (Jack Black). Also popping by this family-friendly bit of gothic horror is Hamilton’s Renée Elise Goldsberry and Twin Peaks’s Kyle MacLachlan.
So there’s some rad stuff in the mix. But also. Eli Roth.
The House with a Clock in its Walls hits theaters September 21st.
