When it comes to H. Jon Benjamin vehicles, Bob’s Burgers will always play second fiddle to Archer’s charms. Honestly, half the time I imagine every episode takes place that one time Sterling had amnesia and spent the summer flipping burgers down on the shore. But the Belchers still hold a special place in my heart, and I’ve missed them since last season ended. Their mix of awkward comedy and social acceptance is a balm for the soul. Anyone who was labeled an odd kid in school can recognize themselves in Tina, Gene, or Louise. Meanwhile, their parents remain both relationship and parenting goals. Despite frequent disagreements, they’re always on the same team. Who among us can’t relate to weird kids and financial stress? Unfortunately for Bob and Linda, their money woes take priority again when a water main breaks in front of the restaurant, destroying their chances for a successful summer and putting their home and business in jeopardy.
Can the Belchers save their restaurant in only 7 days? Probably. Loren Bouchard and Jim Dauterive aren’t so cruel they’d take that away from us. I note a distinct lack of Jimmy Pesto burns in the trailer. It’s weird how attending an insurrection can affect your career.
The Bob’s Burgers Movie is in theaters May 27.
