Following the release of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we witnessed a fresh wave of toxic fandom. While these abusive fanboys have been chasing the franchise’s female stars off social media, Johnson’s not backed down, staying on Twitter and remaining a positive force in the battle for the future of the franchise, come trolls, insulting petitions, and a proposed fan-made remake. And all of this has inspired a truly stellar short film, “Star Wars: Revenge of the Incels.”

io9 this 15-minute short that lovingly parodies Rian Johnson’s astounding directorial debut Brick, mashing it up with Star Wars references to critique the toxic fandom currently plaguing the franchise.

Dana James Jones and his uncle Dominic Flores teamed up write “Star Wars: Revenge of the Incels,” weaving in elements like Tran’s departure from Instagram over abuse from so-called fans and Kathleen Kennedy’s firing of Colin Trevorrow. From there, Jones directed the short with a sharp eye for detail, recreating costumes, folding in J.J. Abrams’s mystery box, a discarded lightsaber, and shot-for-shot re-enactments of some of Brick’s most memorable scenes. A native of San Clemente, CA, where Brick was filmed, Jones even went so far as to shoot his parody at some of the same locations Johnson did. And we’re not the only ones who are impressed.
