It’s mathematically impossible for anyone to be more excited about this movie than my 11-year-old. In a bid to delay bedtime and feel like he was contributing to The Discourse, he explained in painstaking detail every frame of this trailer when it dropped last night.
The original cast — Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Jim Carrey — return and are joined by Shemar Moore, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as the voice of Tails, and Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles (who Elba promised won’t be “sexy.” But, come on.)
Here’s the plot, in case you didn’t figure it all out from the trailer:
After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be in theaters on April 8, 2022.
