The movie DCEU fans should be most excited about isn’t Todd Phillips’ Joker but Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). We won’t get it until February 7, 2020, and Warner Bros. seems to want to keep their girl gang flick’s advertising old school, delivering just an teaser trailer for now (which will also be seen in theaters ahead of IT: Chapter 2.
While disappointing, it did allow the marketing campaign to give us this gleeful gem of a teaser for Birds of Prey with a Pennywise twist:
Margot Robbie keeping herself in the role of Harley while taking control of the character behind the scenes appears to have been the best thing to happen for her — and possibly the DCEU — at the moment. She’s embraced Harley like Ryan Reynolds embraced Deadpool, staying true to what she believes is the core of the character with costumes, lots of other familiar faces, and pulling an arc straight from the New 52.
Hopefully, the fans can get what they want while Warner Bros. and DC make some bank at the box office ahead of the release of Wonder Woman 1984 next June to spur that long-rumored Flash movie into existence. A Flash movie directed by… Andy Muschietti, director of IT and IT: Chapter 2. Full circle, kids.
