The 1970s were a simpler time. I assume, anyway; unlike some people here I’m not so old I can remember them. But it seems true. No one was tied to a cellphone or computer. Folks didn’t work 60 hours a week to afford a crappy one-bedroom apartment. Five young people could hop in a car, drive to middle-of-nowhere Texas, and film a pornographic movie in some random old couple’s barn.
Wait, what?
Well. Put me down as scared and horny. Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen), Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect 1-3), Mia Goth (Suspiria, The Survivalist), Martin Henderson (Smokin’ Aces, The Ring), Owen Campbell (The Americans), and Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi (Neeed for Speed, Don’t Look Up) want to make a porno called The Farmer’s Daughter in repressed Texas and decide to do so at an old couple’s farm, assuming they’ll be left alone. They’re wrong, as the creepy old farmer and his “not well” wife are soon up in all their business, not to mention their insides. The director, Ti West (The Innkeepers, The House of the Devil) went for a classic 1970s soft focus and nailed it. I love the whole vibe and I’m definitely down for this newest twist from the studio that brought us The Green Knight, Midsommar, and The Witch. Also, that’s a sweet poster.
A24 whips it out on March 18.
