If you’re Tom Holland or Zendaya, then you were already having a good year before this Summer rolled around. You had an amazing private wedding that everyone was excited for and you get to be one of the hottest power couples in stardom. What could make it better? How about being in the casts of two of the highest-grossing, record-breaking films of 2026?
It took less than a fortnight for Spider-Man: Brand New Day to hit the $1 billion mark. In the space of a fortnight, it’s sitting at $1.665 billion worldwide. That more than makes it the biggest movie of 2026, soaring ahead of Toy Story 5 with a hefty $550 million+ difference. Over $655 million of that came from the USA alone.
Meanwhile, right next to that big effing horse, The Odyssey also sailed to $1 billion. Not only is it Christopher Nolan’s highest-earning work, it’s now the second highest-grossing movie of 2026, with $1.105 billion. Yes, it took over Toy Story 5. Can it keep that lead? The Odyssey has stronger word of mouth and all those IMAX dollars but Pixar has a wider audience. There’s only one way to decide: someone get me a bow and a room full of creepy suitors.
Things weren’t so good for the new releases of the weekend. At number three is One Night Only, the sex purge rom-com starring Callum Turner. It only brought in $5.7 million from 3,012 locations. But that was still better than Super Troopers 3, the comedy sequel from the Broken Lizard troupe. That one could only manage $4 million from 2,760 places.
Eli Roth’s AI slop horror remake Ice Cream Man was a flop, earning only $2 million. Ha.
The legendary CatVideoFest returned for 2026. Audiences love floofy chonks and their slinky Adam Driver faced brethren, enough to pspsps up $568,414 from 255 cinemas.
The young Anthony Bourdain biopic Tony cooked up $348,995 from six theatres. Cookie Queens, a documentary about girl scouts and their sales of those irresistible sweet treats, made $327,797. Jane Schoenbrun’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, starring Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, grossed $251,500.
Willem Dafoe and Greta Lee teamed up for the indie drama Late Fame, about an obscure poet whose sole book is rediscovered and heralded by a new generation of artists. It took in $38,000 from two places. The Mexican drama Olmo made $30,000 from 51 locations. And Namaslay, a comedy-horror about white people appropriating yoga and things going very wrong, took in $11,316.
This coming week sees the release of the Cold War dramma The Brink of War, the suburban dino thriller The End of Oak Street, and the Matthew McConaughey dramma The Trials of Amziah King.
