Happy Oscars weekend. We hope your favourites won and your least favourites suffered greatly. Now that the 2025 awards season is over, let’s get on with the next one! But first, some box office fun.

Pixar’s latest release, Hoppers, stayed on top in its second week of release with $28.5 million. It held on strongly with only a 37% drop from its opening. No therapy bills for this one, Pete Docter?

Debuting at number two is Reminders of Him, the latest Colleen Hoover adaptation, because she has written dozens of books and we won’t be free of her stranglehold until they’ve all been made into movies. This one was inexplicably plot-wise but solid commercially, with a debut of $18.25 million.

At number three is Undertone, a horror movie courtesy of A24, with $9,339,663. The big horror winner of the top ten continues to be Scream 7, which has now earned over $106 million domestically. Alas, things weren’t so hot for The Bride!, which saw a staggering 70% drop from its opening weekend and only earned $2.11 million from 3,304 locations - a per-theatre average of $638. I liked it! Outside of the top ten, at number 14, is another horror movie, Slanted, with $617,040.

It was a good weekend for nostalgic millennials. Kiki’s Delivery Service was given a re-release in 249 cinemas and earned $1,668,734. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze also got a re-release, because apparently that movie’s a big deal to someone. It oozed up $1.47 million from 1,372 places.

This coming week sees the release of Ryan Gosling’s space adventure, Project Hail Mary and the horror-comedy sequel Ready or Not: Here I Come.
