Pajiba has always stood with Amber Heard. A piddling 20 minutes in the next Aquaman movie doesn’t count for anything, and we’ve been waiting to see what she’ll do next. So, my plans for this week’s Three Trailers were dropped like a hot potato when the trailer for her new movie was released. In The Fire is an exorcism story set on a remote plantation during the frontier era that stars Eduardo Noriega and Sophie Amber.
In The Fire opens in theaters and will be available digitally on October 13th.
In A24’s upcoming Dream Scenario, Nic Cage stars as an ordinary man who finds viral fame by mysteriously appearing in people’s dreams. As with any viral sensation, things fall apart quickly in this surreal examination of “cancel culture” (which isn’t real, but go on, Nic Cage.)
Dream Scenario also stars Julianne Nicholson, Michael Cera, Tim Meadows, Dylan Gelula (Support The Girls), and Dylan Baker (most recently seen in Hunters). It will be released on November 10th.
Hulu’s Quiz Lady pairs Sandra Oh and Awkwafina as disparate sisters on a road trip to compete on a quiz show to pay off their mother’s debt (and save a dog.) The twist is that Sandra Oh plays the wacky, eccentric sister while Awkwafina plays the frumpy, quiet weirdo with the quiz show brain. It also stars Will Ferrell, Holland Taylor, Tony Hale, and Jason Schwartzman.
Quiz Lady will be available to stream on Hulu beginning November 3rd.
If True Crime series weren’t scary enough for you, this week’s Lagniappe is True Crime by way of horror master John Carpenter in Peacock’s original series Suburban Screams. Carpenter is the producer of this six-episode anthology series. He also composed the theme music and will direct one episode.
Suburban Screams begins streaming on Peacock on October 13th.
