Zac Efron is still proud of his High School Musical days. He watched clips from throughout his film career in an interview with Vanity Fair, including the incomparable “Get’cha Head in the Game” song and dance scene, and his responses were…interesting…
“First thing that comes to mind is I really drilled all those shots. There’s no CGI in there. I don’t think we had the budget for that, so that makes me feel good,” he said after watching his younger self shoot a few basketballs. Um … CGI for high school basketball? It was, like, a choreographed game of H-O-R-S-E. We’re not talking NBA-level mastery here.
Then he explained, “Not many people know this, but High School Musical was just a made-for-TV movie and it was very small, so we had a very condensed shooting schedule and very limited rehearsal time.” No, yeah—literally everyone knows that, babe. It was a Disney Channel movie; we were all there. Pretty sure even the Gen Zers know about the Disney Channel.
“I think we might’ve practiced it for two days prior to doing that all in sync,” he said of the choreography. “We maybe had two three-hour rehearsals with basketballs. After five takes, we nailed it.” Clearly he’s never seen a Rusical episode of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, or he would know that amount of rehearsal is a luxury. He continued, “They didn’t cut from start to finish and all of us were blown away. And I think that was the first time all of us went, ‘Is this gonna be cool?’”
Oh, sweetie. He’s so sincere, too. Who’s gonna tell him it was, like, literally the antithesis of cool?
