Marvel Studios returned to Hall H of San Diego Comic Con over the weekend and dropped a few treats for fans along the way. We got a stage full of A-Listers, the reveal of our new Ghost Rider — Ryan Gosling! — and the announcement that Black Panther 3 would see a new figure claim the crown. Meet your new Black Panther: David Jonsson!
Jonsson will play Prince T’Challa II, the son of T’Challa who was introduced as a young ‘un in the second movie. This is a very good casting choice, and one that’s going to give a major boost to a brilliant young talent.
You probably recognise Jonsson from a ton of stuff. The 32-year-old Londoner got his start in theatre after graduating from RADA and landed his breakout TV role in 2020 with HBO’s Industry. He made his feature debut in the underseen rom-com Rye Lane and had his Hollywood break with Alien: Romulus. He won the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2025, the only award of the ceremony voted on by the British public. The majority of its winners havee gone on to become massive stars, from James McAvoy to Kristen Stewart, Tom Hardy, Tom Holland, and Jack O’Connell. That same year, Jonsson stole the show in The Long Walk and received a British Independent Film Award nomination for Wasteman. He’s attached to the Sammy Davis Jr./Kim Novak historical romance Scandalous! alongside Sydney Sweeney, and is reportedly working on a film with Frank Ocean.
We wish him well for his future in the MCU. Those are some big shoes to fill.
