Last night, Manhattan was overwhelmed with glitz, glamor, and sacrilege thanks to The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala. The theme of this year’s event was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” And some of our favorite stars went all out for their big moment on those iconic steps. Here’s a round-up of the looks that had us gagging on eleganza.
Openly gay Emmy-winner Lena Waithe wore her pride as a cape, which seemed a challenge for “Catholic Imagination” to include embracing their LGBTQA+ members.
Journalist Mark Harris (A.K.A. husband to Angels In America writer Tony Kushner) gave his blessing to Katy Perry’s winged look.

Frances McDormand clearly pulled her inspiration from the divine movie Josie and the Pussycats.
Tessa Thompson gave us highlighter envy with this out of this world aesthetic.
Lily Collins spun a bit of Evanescence into her Our Mother Of Sorrows costume.
Zendaya pulled inspiration from Joan of Arc, and her Spider-Man: Homecoming co-star Tom Holland was championing this look on Instagram.
Solange went with “votive candle, but make it fashion.”
As to who did the bare minimum to fulfill the theme, it’s either Trevor Noah.
Or Kim Kardashian, who gave us their usual with a cross slapped on.
Back to goodness, Michael B. Jordan’s suit is so tight it seems like he might hulk out of it at any moment. Let us pray.

Is this your king? Oh yes, Chadwick Boseman. Yes you are.

Blake Lively got a lot of adoration for coming as the Nicole Kidman character from Moulin Rouge.
You’ll want to click through on the “enhancement” of Sarah Jessica Parker’s headpiece.
Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig slayed in nun couture.
But never forget, Rihanna owns this gig. (And Ocean’s 8 opens June 8th.)
