Last night, the stars stomped the pink carpet of the Met Gala in a celebration of this year’s theme: “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” The definition of “camp” has long been a debate across art forms. And that debate lit up Twitter as fashion-forward celebs like Lady Gaga, Zendaya, Janelle Monáe, and Cardi B took on the tricky assignment. Who failed and who was flawless? Twitter weighed in.

Lady Gaga kicked things off with a series of reveals.

Then came Billy Porter, who stole the show at the Academy Awards Red Carpet with his tuxedo gown. And if anyone could show up Gaga it was this newly crowned king of fashion.

When it came to camp, some attendees got it and flaunted it.

Some did not.

But of all those who shined on the carpet last night, it was the Black stars who shined the brightest. High fashion is a world that is too often suffocatingly narrow and lily-white in its definition of glamour and beauty. But last night, these stylish stars proudly displayed how Black culture has defined camp.

In a night overflowing with jaw-dropping fashion, the best looks of the night came from Billy Porter (up top), Zazie Beetz, Lupita Nyong’o, Janelle Monáe, and Cardi B.

And then came Zendaya whose Cinderella-inspired dress transformed on the carpet from dingy to pure magic!

Did we miss a Met Gala look you loved or loathed?
