OhMaGawdYouGuys: The TikTok Girlies Discover Tank Tops

Ohmygod so, like, Kendall Jenner, totally wore a, like, white tank top to a basketball game, and, like she totally went viral, and now, like that tank top is the, like, hottest shit on TikTok and …sorry, yeah I can’t keep that going.

Last month, celebrity trendsetter (barf) Kendall Jenner was spotted at a Knicks game (RIP) wearing a white tank top and the Internet has gone a bit bananas over it. As if women haven’t been rocking (insert your favorite problematic name for them here) tanks since before the Internet was born.

They were part of the uniform in the 1990s, and Kendall is far from the first or even the fiftieth celebrity to wear them and make them look good.

Fashion is cyclical, that’s the beauty and the beast of it. Sometimes good trends come back around. Sometimes, dead is better. Ten years ago, I started seeing people wearing stirrup pants on the subway. They gave me flashbacks to some seriously ill-conceived outfits of the 1980s. Jelly shoes have made a comeback. That’s an uncomfortable idea. Trust me. When I wore broom skirts in the 90s, my mom broke out into cold sweats. That’s all it is. But I’m going to make fun of you if you get on social media and act like you discovered an entirely new element, or were there at the birth of a star, just because some celebrity wore an undershirt out in public.

Especially when that celebrity’s sister is part-owner of a company that co-opted affordable, ribbed tank tops and sells them on her website for $34.

So, points to the TikTok Girlies for not overpaying for underwear you can wear to pilates class. But this is embarrassing. Don’t any of you have older siblings?
