It's been 16 whole months since Taylor Swift released a new album, so it's time for something new. And what better way to make the announcement than by your boyfriend's podcast? Travis, see, you are handy for some things.
Travis Kelce confirmed that Swift would be a guest on his podcast New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason, a man with the most incredible eyebrows I've ever seen. The internet tells me that this show is wildly popular, but I also refuse to learn anything about American football unless it becomes law, so I'll take their word for it.
To celebrate Swift's upcoming appearance, the podcast's Instagram page posted a video of her wherein she announced her new album. It'll be called The Life of a Showgirl. The cover art was blurred in the clip, but you can now pre-order it on Swift's website. Fans who pre-ordered the album received a message which said it would ship before 13 October, but that "this is not the release date". They have yet to confirm the official date for that.
There is a photograph going around that seems to show what the vinyl insert of the album looks like, but I do not want to be sued by Swift, so I'll let you go and look for that on your own.
It is interesting to see Swift launch her new album like this. It's almost mundane, especially for a star who doesn't do a ton of interviews. She likes to be direct with her fans and this is as direct as you can get without going back on the road for The Eras Tour: Part II. This is also very casual and freewheeling for her. A podcast? With her boyfriend?! I think it's Kelce's inclusion here that matters. I don't see Swift, say, going on Call Her Daddy, even if all of the questions were guaranteed to be total softballs. But a sitdown with the brothers Kelce can be cute and approachable without giving away too much. The best celebrities are really smart at giving good quotes without revealing anything truly juicy.
It also helps to build up TNT as a true power couple. They've been very public in a way that her last major relationship (with Joe Alwyn) absolutely wasn't, and they clearly have similar attitudes towards fame, image, and being very popular. I bet his podcast numbers are about to explode.
No word yet on whether or not The Life of a Showgirl will contain lots of feathers and a homage to the works of Paul Verhoeven. Do it, Taylor!
