Dear Reader, please believe me when I tell you I tried to do my due diligence as the reality TV person of this fine website (much to most of your chagrin) and watch the latest season of one of my top-five least favorite reality shows in the history of the genre, Selling Sunset. But, alas, I have fallen off the wagon, as it were, because the silly outfits and the low-stakes drama marketed as potentially life-ending conflict were simply too ridiculous, even for me.
I did, however, catch otherwise uninteresting newbie Alanna Gold, who claimed to “own” a town in the desert of California. You can own a town? I thought to myself before quitting out of Netflix and returning to Peacock for some real lowbrow entertainment. But Selling Sunset, as you may know, is a show about filthy rich people selling ugly houses to filthy rich people, so as a not filthy rich person, I figured that, yeah, maybe you can own a town. Maybe, like, no one lives there and she bought a bunch of abandoned buildings and calls that a town or something, who knows?
Turns out, no. You can’t own a town. And furthermore, she doesn’t. She bought a bunch of buildings in a town that people very much do live in. And those people are pissed.
“I want to reach out personally to say I am so deeply sorry for the confusion I have caused,” Gold told People. You know it’s bad if you have to make a statement in People. “I certainly do not own Pioneertown, I never should have said that and I apologize for doing so. I want you to know that I did not mean any harm, I absolutely love Pioneertown and I simply got too excited talking about it.”
She emphasized her affection for the town and its folks, who she definitely doesn’t want showing up on her doorstep with pitchforks and such:
“We wanted to become part of the community, so we invested in a home and other properties there … Again, I am so sorry to the people of Pioneertown, I would never want to disrespect the town’s history or any of the people who make it such a wonderful place.”
This apology comes after the people of Pioneertown made their own statement on Instagram.
Looks like we’re in for a good old-fashioned showdown, folks. This town is quite literally not big enough for all of them.
