Sacha Baron Cohen Says Pamela Anderson And Kid Rock Divorced Over 'Borat' (And Kid Rock Being A Slut-Shaming Douchebag)

While many marriages may have been threatened by obnoxious husbands relentlessly quoting its “my wife” bit, one marriage actually ended because of Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. English comedian Sacha Baron Cohen has confirmed that Pamela Anderson’s 6-month marriage to Kid Rock ended over the Baywatch star’s appearance in the hit 2006 mockumentary.

On the Daily Beast podcast The Last Laugh, Cohen recounted how the climactic abduction of Anderson sequence was shot. First off, yes, she was in on it. “Otherwise, it would have been kidnapping.” In the sequence, Borat (Cohen) ambushes Anderson at a book signing, trying to put her into his “marriage sack” before being thwarted by security guards. In the second take, Cohen accidentally injured Anderson when he swung her into something and “she accidentally clipped her jaw.” He went on to note the “amazingly brave” actress “lost a tiny bit of bone from her jaw” for the bit, “and secondly, she lost a husband.”

The Daily Beast notes that at this point in the live-recording podcast Cohen’s wife, Isla Fisher, was gesturing for Cohen to cut this story short. But he shrugged her suggestion off and continued:

“So, later on Kid Rock saw the movie. And I texted Pamela Anderson. I said, ‘How did it go? What did he think?’ And she texted back, ‘He’s getting divorced.’ I texted back, ‘Why?’ She goes, ‘The movie.’ And I thought it was a joke! But then a few weeks later, they got divorced and they put as the reason for the divorce: Borat.”

It’s true. Anderson and Rock filed for divorce two weeks after Borat hit theaters in November of 2006. At the time, it was speculated that Rock’s reaction to the film was the final straw for Anderson. Which might sound extreme, until you hear what his reaction was. CBS reported that Rock pitched a slut-shaming fit during a special screening of the film, held at Universal Studio chief Ron Meyer’s home. According to an unnamed insider, Rock yelled at Anderson in front of the guests, her work colleagues, and the head of a studio, “You’re nothing but a whore! You’re a slut! How could you do that movie?”

To recap: Pamela Anderson appeared as herself in a comedy in which her sole role is being attacked by a deranged fan at a book signing. Kid Rock decided this made her a whore and a slut. It is unclear if that’s because Rock doesn’t know what those words mean, doesn’t understand how movies work, or if he is just a raging, misogynist, idiotic asshat with a bad attitude and a worse hair cut. Of course, it would be reckless to speculate on the state of mind of the Trump-loving has-been who needed four co-writers to create such captivating lyrics as “Bawitdaba da bang da bang diggy diggy diggy shake the boogie said up jump the boogie.”

After all, who can truly know the mind of a poet such as this:
