Rich people like to date other rich people. It makes life easier to share a tax bracket with the one you love, and someone who knows how to play the fame game. So, I'm a bit confused by people who seem shocked and/or upset that F1 driver Lewis Hamilton might be dating Kim Kardashian. The pair are rumoured to have been cozying up over the past couple of months. They were recently spotted together in Japan, alongside B-Squad Kardashian Khloe, where Hamilton is set to race soon.
Why do people think this romance makes no sense? Hamilton certainly seems to have better outward politics than Kim, having supported environmental and human rights causes. But he's also a mega-rich dude who lives in Monaco to avoid paying his fair share of taxes and who participates in a sport consumed by human corruption, sportswashing, and cozying up to dictatorial governments. This dude's raced enough times in places like Qatar and Azerbaijan to know what's going on. What's so shocking about him potentially dating another uber-wealthy woman with a, let's say, lackadaisical attitude towards social issues that stand in the way of her making even more money?
I can see why Kim would be into this. Lewis is hot, socially savvy, and part of a sport with a massive media presence. They've moved in one another's circles for years and have been photographed together several times. F1 spouses are this generation's WAGs in terms of press coverage and fan obsession. Her hanging out with all the other wives and girlfriends would be good for her image. Frankly, he's way more interesting than any of her more recent partners. Then again, the bar must be low when your ex-husband is Kanye.
