King Charles III has been diagnosed with a form of cancer.
Buckingham Palace released a statement announcing that Charles had undergone recent treatment for ‘benign prostate enlargement’ recently and that subsequent tests identified ‘a form of cancer.’ The BBC says that it is not prostate cancer and that the King began ‘regular treatments’ today.
Buckingham Palace says the King ‘remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.’ He will postpone his public engagements and it is expected that other royals, most notably his wife and eldest son, will take over for him while he receives medical treatment.
The statement ends by saying, ‘His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.’ The palace also says that Charles is positive about his treatment and ‘looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.’
