Kathy Hilton is the latest passenger on the Bravo to Broadway pipeline with sources telling Page Six that she has a “top secret” musical theater project in the can.
“Kathy filmed a musical theater project a little bit ago, and she’s getting ready to drop it soon,” the source said. “She’s singing and dancing. It’s incredible. Her fans are going to flip.” Apparently the project is not only “very fun” but also “Hamilton-inspired.”
Obviously, the most interesting word in that headline is “Hamilton-Inspired.” So much potential for problematic story-telling is contained within that statement. Is it historical? Is there rap? Is it just a musical, and that’s the only musical she knows to compare it to? Is it a biographical situation? If so, knowing Kathy Hilton, it’s about Michael Jackson—the former friend whose music she loves so much that she threw a fit when an Aspen nightclub wouldn’t play him, which prompted an anger spree so great that she and her sister didn’t speak for at least a year.
Now, Hilton, 64, is no stranger to performance: she and her daughter played a part in pioneering the reality TV space with The Simple Life, she and her sisters have been the stars of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills since its inception, and, you know, when you’re that obscenely rich, every day is a performance. But this is the woman who didn’t understand the phrases “hunky-dory” and “Homeless Not Toothless,” and who flew from California to Colorado in her slippers … actually, I’ve talked myself into it. I think it sounds great. Singing and dancing? I can’t wait.
