Judi Dench Accidentally Made A Naked FaceTime Call

Judi Dench has not filmed a nude scene in many years. According to a very helpful site called Nudography, she last appeared topless in the 1977’s Langrishe Go Down, a BBC2 Play of the Week. Before that, Judi disrobed as Titania in 1968’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Very classy, very tasteful, very British.

Now Judi is 88, and she probably didn’t plan on getting naked in front of a camera ever again. Alas, technology had other plans. On this morning’s episode of The Zoe Ball Show, Judi shared a funny story about accidentally FaceTiming actors Chris Logan and Ben Whishaw (Paddington!) in the bathtub.

Judi begins her tale by describing her phone as “an anathema to me”: “I don’t know what all those buttons are for!” One morning, Judi’s daughter, Finty Williams, called her and said, “It’s Chris Logan’s birthday, and he’s having a walk with Ben Whishaw, and they’re in Regent’s Park. Please wish him Happy Birthday.”

Judi got distracted, and, later, she got into her tub and suddenly remembered that she was supposed to call Chris:

“So, I picked up my phone, and I pressed, and I said, ‘Chris, Happy…’ And I just saw these two people turn and go…” [gasps] “Well, it was FaceTiming them. I don’t know about FaceTime. Poor Chris.”

Poor Chris?! He got a personal nude message from one of the greatest actresses on Earth! Sounds like a fantastic birthday gift to me. Here’s the clip:

Judi’s struggles with her phone probably aren’t helped by her failing eyesight. She was diagnosed with macular degeneration, an age-related degenerative eye condition, back in 2012. Judi says the disease makes reading scripts nearly impossible, adding, “it’s terrible to be so dependent on people.”

Well, next time Judi takes a bath and has to make a phone call, she might want to get some help from her partner, 80-year-old conservationist David Mills. Judi and David fell in love in 2010, when he asked her to open his new red-squirrel enclosure. She said yes, and they fell in love. Awww. Hopefully David’s not jealous of Judi nude FaceTiming young male actors. Her phone is an anathema to her, David! An anathema!
