I know. We’ve already gone hoarse over our collective cries of outrage, or cries of outrage about the outrage, or cries of exasperation over the cries of the outrage over cries of outrage.
Many of us are tired of hearing about Trevor Noah, and we don’t even know when the guy will officially be stepping in to replace Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. But now that the show itself is back from its holiday hiatus, Stewart himself has used the its opening to respond.
Stewart basically says pissing people off for getting it wrong on occasion is part of the ride. He explained:
Kristy Puchko always appreciates a good kerfuffle.“I know there was a large kerfuffle on Tweeeeeeeeeeter. But I can say this without hesitation: Trevor Noah will earn your trust and respect. Or not. Just as I earned your trust and respect. Or did not. Or sometimes earned it, but then lost it. And then kind of got it back but then it was like ‘fuck that guy! Oh that rally was so stupid. OH! I hate him!’ It kind of just goes that way. I do hope you will give him the opportunity to earn that trust and respect. Because my experience with him is that he is an incredibly thoughtful, and considerate, and funny and smart individual. I think if you give him that time, it’s going to be worth it.”
