“Talk less. Smile more.” These seem to be the smug words coming from scads of political pundits when it comes to presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. Her every outfit is analyzed. If the former First Lady/former senator/former Secretary of State decides to wear glasses, some grumble she’s phoning it in somehow, as if she wore pajamas pants to the Capitol. When she wins big and makes a rousing speech, there are asshats who publicly decry her for daring not to smile during a decisive victory. And if she does smile:
We’ve discussed the double standard of campaign season before. So you can bet our black hearts beat hard and fast when Clinton’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! climaxed with the late night show’s titular host lampooning the contradictions and condescension of her common critiques.
Props to Kimmel in this sly and silly mockery of this sexist election coverage style. Dude’s come a long way from The Man Show.
If you have issues with Clinton’s politics, that’s fine. That’s worth discussion. If you’re complaining that she doesn’t smile enough:
Kristy Puchko is not so much an angry feminist as much as an exhausted one.
