Oh No, We May Never See Jake Paul Get Punched in the Face Again

Man, remember when Jake Paul got punched in the face so hard, and on live TV, that it broke his jaw? Beautiful memories. Yeah, the “fight” against Anthony Joshua was a barely a fight and the whole thing was just a shameless parade of vanity and betting ads, but come on, tell me you didn’t laugh hysterically when Joshua pummelled that loser so hard that rings flew out of him, Sonic the Hedgehog style? He looked so pathetically unprepared to fight an actual boxer and not an out-of-shape OAP. Sometimes, it’s nice to see creeps be humbled, albeit for a few seconds.

Alas, we may never see Paul be beaten like that again. Paul told Uncrowned that the broken jaw he suffered at the hands of Anthony might have killed his “career” in the sport.

“We’ll see what my doctors say. I’ll be able to get a more accurate timeframe, or can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm and possibilities of things [that I can’t]. [The jaw] does feel a lot better as weeks and time goes by, but I definitely need to get cleared first to be able to spar. “Most definitely [my boxing career could be over]. It just depends on how the bone heals. Then, also, there’s a tooth missing. I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to get an implanted tooth of some sort. I’m not sure how much time that’s going to add to things, but we just have to see and figure out what the smartest thing is for me.”

No, Jake! Come on. Don’t you know that broken jaws heal really fast and can take even more punches? Go on, try it. Let Joshua prove it to you.

Paul made an obscene amount of money on that fight, as did Joshua, who wore prediction market branding for the occasion. It was, by all accounts, an embarrassment for boxing, a sport that doesn’t exactly need any more controversies. I’ve never been a fan of fighting sports — MMA makes my skin crawl — but I get the historical lineage of boxing, and I get why its supporters found Paul’s bastardising of it into another spree of #content to be distasteful. I’m sure he’s happy with the millions he’s made from this so-called career, but watching him wide-eyed in fear when an actual sportsman took him down feels like an encapsulation of his entire crooked game.
