After ten years and 19 movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has radically reshaped Hollywood and the lives of its stars. But Avengers: Infinity War may prove the beginning of the end of an era, as contracts come to an end, and some of the MCU’s biggest names begin to drift away from the superpowered franchise. But wherever they go, the original Avengers cast will always carry a little bit of the MCU with them. Well, five of them, anyway.
Robert Downey Jr. revealed five of the original Avengers got matching tattoos. Designed by New York-based tattoo artist Joshua Lord, the tat is a modified Avengers logo combined with the number 6. Downey shared an exclusive image with EW and posted the video below of getting it done.
“It was (Scarlett) Johansson’s idea,” Downey said, “And she and (Chris) Evans did it in New York. Then, their New York guy, Josh Lord, who is amazing, flew out to LA, he did me, did (Jeremy) Renner, and then we just bullied (Chris) Hemsworth into doing it, and he got it.”
The only original Avenger who didn’t get this MCU ink was Mark Ruffalo. Instead, Lord opted to get the tat too, and his is extra special as it was done by the Avengers themselves. “Each one of us drew a line on the artist with his own tattoo gun and it was a total massacre.” Downey reported. In the video below, you can see Evans inking his line with Johansson looking on.
Thanks for the ink, Joshua Lorde!(and for letting all of us maim you in return) Love to @RobertDowneyJr @Renner4Real @chrishemsworth Scarlett (we just need to get Ruffalo blackout drunk) â¤ï¸ pic.twitter.com/mNtJ6xCyOP

Downey shared a look behind-the-scenes of the LA contingent’s time with Lord. And it includes Johansson breaking into an “interpretive dance.”
Renner shared a pic of the finished Avengers-made tat.
The Downey vid has Avengers assembling and some Chris-on-Chris shade thrown!
Seemingly as thanks for his bang-up inking, Lord was invited to the premiere of Avengers: Infinity War.
With Ruffalo the only holdout, we doubt this is the last we’ll hear of the Avengers group tattoo. Perhaps our beloved Banner will cave to peer pressure as the press tour gears up next spring for the untitled Avengers 4?
