Duane "Keffe D" Davis Found Guilty of Orchestrating Murder of Tupac Shakur

After 30 years without justice, someone has finally been found guilty in one of the most infamous cold cases in US history. Former gang boss Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been found guilty of orchestrating the murder of Tupac Shakur.

A jury in Las Vegas found him guilty of one count of murder with a deadly weapon. Tupac was only 25 when he was murdered in a drive-by shooting in 1996. The prosecution successfully argued that Davis had supplied the gun, ordered the shooting, and been in the car when his nephew, Orlando Anderson (deceased), committed the murder. Prosecutors said that the shooting was an act of retaliation after Shakur and Anderson got into a fight hours earlier.

For 30 years, his death has been the focus of theories, conspiracies, and true crime fodder. There have been many reported culprits and countless books, TV shows, podcasts, and so on that have claimed to tell the truth of what happened on that night. But in this case, Davis’s fate was decided by his own bragging.

Davis, a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips street gang, told authorities way back in 2008 that he was in the car from where the gun that killed Shakur was fired (tape from that meeting was played in court.) He made this moment into the big selling point of his 2019 memoir, wherein he took responsibility for Shakur’s murder and said he was the one who had gotten rid of the murder weapon. Davis’s defence team tried to argue that he had just been making up crap to sell books and boost his street cred. The jury did not believe that. They found him guilty within a matter of hours. It turns out that, when you spend years telling the world that you killed Tupac, people will believe you. Davis now faces a sentence of life in prison.
