It’s kind of hard to remember now, but for a while Will & Grace was the show. It was actually the highest rated sitcom among adults from 2001 through 2005, and it won 16 Emmys. By now though, it’s been reduced to some daytime reruns on Logo, and blissfully all of the Ms. Karen gifs the internet can handle.
Which is especially weird because it had more guest stars than some late night shows. Like really a lot of guest stars. Debra Messing was asked about those guest stars when she was on Watch What Happens Live. Ordinarily this is where I would embed the video and hit “Publish,” but WWHL is one of the most grating things I’ve ever had to suffer through and I don’t want to do that to you guys. So instead I’ll be offering a dramatic reenactment with Ms. Karen gifs. You’re welcome.
Caller: Debra, I wanted to know the year that you had all of the stars on like Michael Douglas and Glenn Close …
(time out, how could I have forgotten that Glenn Close was on Will & Grace?
Oh, right. Continue.)
Who was your favorite and who was your least favorite?
Alexandra Wentworth (who I guess is a friend of Messing?): Oh god, I know. I know the answer.
(Sorry, Alexandra, but everybody’s all.)
Messing: You do?
Wentworth: Harry Connick Jr.
(Oh, Harry.)
Cohen: Harry Connick Jr. was your favorite. And you hated Bobby Cannavale.
(YOU HATED BOBBY CANNAVALE?)
Messing: Oh my god, are you kidding? No, we loved each other.
(That’s better.)
Messing: You know who, at the time, I wasn’t a fan of? Jeremy Piven.
(We’ve all heard about how Piven is the worst. And you know what?)
Messing: You know, I had to kiss a lot of boys on that show. And we were rehearsing, and the very first day of rehearsal, he shoved his tongue all the way down to my heart.
Messing: I was just like, “Whoa!” He goes, “Yeah, yeah.” He was like, “That’s it, I’m in.” I was like, “You know, this is comedy. We don’t really go that deep.” And every time he went for it.
(Yuck, Piven.)
So what did we learn today? Harry Connick Jr. is great, Bobby Cannavale is awesome, Jeremy Piven sucks, and Ms. Karen continues to run everything.
