One of the Worst People on the Internet is Going to Jail

Sometimes, good things happen.

You probably don’t know who Johnny Somali is. I envy you for that. He’s a streamer and self-styled rage-baiter whose entire shtick is going to different places and acting as offensively as possible. Somali (real name Ramsey Khalid Ismael) was banned from YouTube and Twitch for repeated rule violations, so he’s mostly made his living from Kick or Rumble, the alternative platforms largely populated by gambling ads and pure unfettered hate.

His whole thing is tedious bigotry with the “nah nah nah” taunting of a toddler who sh*ts himself in public foor attention. While in Japan, for instance, Somali went into a hotel construction site in Osaka, where he then yelled “Fukushima” at the construction workers. In Israel, he sexually harassed a police officer and filmed himself attaching photographs of Jeffrey Epstein and Harvey Weinstein to the Western Wall. While he’s been fined and often arrested in these places, he’s bragged frequently about being able to do whatever he pleases because he’s American.

And then he went to South Korea.

In October 2024, Somali filmed himself performing lap dances the Statue of Peace, a memorial that commemorates the young comfort women forced into sexual slavery by Japanese soldiers during the Second World War. He harassed people on the streets, vandalized a local store, blasted North Korean music on public transport, and threatened some local female content creators. It got so bad that locals essentially put out a hit on him. He was punched no fewer than three times in public, and each instance was amazing.

On November 2, 2024, Somali was barred from leaving the country. He tried to issue a harried apology for his actions, but unfortunately for him, South Korea does not mess around. He was taken into custody and faced eight charges. This didn’t stop him from being a d*ck, by the way. He tried to run up to his court date in a MAGA hat. After three trials, to which he plead guilty to several charges, Somali was found guilty and sentenced to six months of prison labour. He must also serve 20 days in detention, and he received a five-year employment restriction at institutions related to children, adolescents, and the disabled.

Alas, I don’t think this will deter this abject loser. He’ll get out of jail and go back to being a racist, sexist bully who thinks it’s his God-given right to cause chaos. But hey, there are a lot of countries out there full of people who know how to fight.
