Caroline Calloway Told On Herself

When the Supreme Court overturned affirmative action for all but white legacy applicants, it led me to wonder whether Ivy League schools infamous for their legacy programs have diluted the quality of their student body. Are they so deserving of their vaunted status if an exemplary academic performance means as much or less than whether their parents were students? This also communicates that America sees more value in nepotism than in addressing how enslaving people of color and then antagonizing them every step of the way from enslavement might’ve made the playing field uneven.

Noted gadfly Caroline Calloway “wrote” a “book” called Scammer that detailed, amongst other things, hearing her roommate’s sexual assault and being turned on by it. She shared this person’s trauma without their consent and body-shamed them in the most backhanded way imaginable. If that wasn’t enough, she also admitted to lying on her application to Cambridge. Now she’s worried; they could take her degree away! It would be such “a blow to [her] ego,” you see and we just can’t have that.

Cambridge very well should revoke her degree, now that it’s found to be built on lies and nothing else of substance, but I have a feeling the under-talented “writer” will probably be just fine. Calloway’s lack of truth, authenticity, and skill hasn’t stopped her before, so why would it now? That said, I can’t imagine Cambridge would want to be connected to all this mess, so we can but hope.
