Back before Hugh Jackman was a movie star, he was a theater actor who was wide-eyed and terrified to make his first big film, a risky new adventure called X-Men. But it helped that living legend Ian McKellen was there to offer some gentle words of encouragement and wisdom. And nearly 20 years later, Jackman had the chance to publicly thank his co-star and idol for that kindness on The Graham Norton Show. And McKellen, the deliciously dirty old man he is, responded by shamelessly flirting like a Golden Girl. It’s divine.
Jackman and Patrick Stewart were there to promote Logan, which McKellen is not in, and is not happy about.
Please please please please give these two a rom-com. Let a saucy McKellen spot Jackman from across a bar that’s seen better days. He approaches him and flirts, because why not? And Jackman flashes that dashing smile and accepts the proffered drink. Oh the flirting would be delicious. The subversion delightful. The wit razor-sharp, dizzying. And the reaction of fratty fanboys furious would be rich with sweet sweet male tears.*
And just for bonus fun times, here’s McKellen sharing a tale of Maggie Smith slaying him with post-Oscar loss shade.
