Antoni Porowski Implies ‘Queer Eye’ Cast Gets Along Better Without Bobby Berk

It’s been a tumultuous six months for the Queer Eye folks: first, Bobby Berk announced he was leaving the show in November of last year. Berk’s exit as the interior design expert came amid some rumblings of drama on set, mainly between him and fashion expert Tan France. Berk confirmed at the time that they did indeed have, in his words, “a moment,” but that it was between the two of them, had “nothing to do with the show,” and that they would “be fine.”

Some fans speculated that part of the drama had to do with France’s campaigning for his buddy, Jeremiah Brent, to replace Berk. France has denied that, but … you know … Brent was cast … so …

(Sidenote: I was recently delighted to remember that Brent’s first 15 minutes were as a green styling assistant on The Rachel Zoe Project on Bravo way back in the 2010s, which is now available to stream on Peacock. He only lasted one season because he very much did not belong there, but they let him decorate and furnish Rachel Zoe’s new house in the two weeks before she moved in, so that’s basically practice for Queer Eye. It was kismet!)

And then there was the little matter of hair and beauty expert Jonathan Van Ness being accused of having “rage issues” and being “emotionally abusive.” This behavior allegedly caused “awkwardness” on set and problems between Van Ness and the rest of the cast. Van Ness has yet to respond to any of these allegations.

Anyway, it’s all hunky-dory now, at least according to food expert Antoni Porowski.

“Honestly, like, we are hanging out, we’re going for dinners to—I was about to name the restaurant but I won’t, but it’s our favorite spot—and we all hang out together and we’ve been sharing a trailer since day one,” Porowski told ET at the Disney/ABC Upfronts. “Sometimes we’re not gonna get along but at the end of the day we’re a family and we’re like a middle-aged boy band, you know what I mean?”

Of Brent, he said, “I adore him. I met him very casually a couple of months before the whole thing started, so we had a little bit of a friendship there.” He added that the newbie is “killing it.”

“Through thick and thin, we’re in it together,” Porowski concluded. Well, unless you’re Bobby Berk, I suppose.
