TMZ has reported that Amanda Bynes checked herself into an Orange County inpatient mental health facility in early July, one week after leaving an outpatient facility, and another mental health facility in Southern California before that. She “felt she needed more help than what she was receiving at the outpatient facility” and “wanted more of a therapeutic place to live instead of living by herself at her L.A. apartment while she receives treatment” according to sources close to Bynes.

Before this, Bynes was detained by police and placed on psychiatric hold in June when police received a call from a woman in distress who turned out to be the actress. Sources told Entertainment Tonight at the time that Bynes “was doing better recently and trying her best to take care of herself,” but she was “inconsistent about taking her medication.” This was the second time Bynes was placed on a psychiatric hold, the first being in March of this year when she was found naked on a Los Angeles street after breaking up with her ex Paul Michael.

The source went on to explain, “When Amanda was admitted to a mental facility a few months ago, things weren’t going as well for her. She was very distressed, concerned about her past and reputation, surrounding herself with the wrong people who were bad influences, and not taking her medication.”

All this bouncing around started after Bynes’s conservatorship was terminated in March of 2022. Hopefully, this latest facility is the right place for her, and she can continue to make voluntary choices like this one to take control of her own health.
