Alexander Skarsgård is one of our finest delightful thespians. It’s hard to believe he’s actually the same species as us mere mortals. Frankly, it’s unfair that he’s tall, hot, talented, and a super-nice guy who enjoys leaning into his eccentric side for our pleasure. You’d hate him if he weren’t, you know, Alexander flippin’ Skarsgård. This year, we’ve gotten a lot of ASkars. He spent much of the first part of the year promoting Murderbot, and now he’s on the festival circuit with Pillion.

This one is an adaptation of a novel by Adam Mars-Jones. Reviews have been great, and people like me have acted totally normally about this premise. While Americans won’t get to see it until February of next year, us Brits are being treated early with a November premiere. Ha!

Skarsgård is nothing if not committed to his craft. He’s also a proud freak who has no qualms about putting on a show for the sake of his work. For Pillion, he’s donned a series of fabulous outfits that echo the film’s themes. And we need to thank him for that. And also his stylist, Harry Lambert.

While at the Cannes Film Festival, where the film had its world premiere, he wore over-the-knee stockings.

At another screening, he wore this unique shirt with some intriguing icons emblazoned across his chest. I wonder what they all have in common. Answers in the comments, please.

For the London premiere, he donned a leather halter-top and trouser combination. When you have shoulders like that, why not show them off? He makes such sacrifices for his work.

Also, let’s give a shout-out to Harry Melling, his co-star, who’s been no slouch in the fashion department. Note to men everywhere: If your hair just naturally does the Superman forehead curl, then you’re obliged to wear it like that all the time.

Most recently, in Spain, Alex went for a scout-inspired look. He knows who he’s pandering to. I bet his Google search history is amazing. For entirely professional purposes, of course.

Is this post a shameless excuse to look at Skarsgård for long periods of time? Yes, of course. But I also have to talk about how fun it is to see an actor like him embrace his off-beat mode. He was always that guy, well before Hollywood tried to make him into a conventional hunk. What is True Blood if not delightfully unhinged? Much like his dad, who never shies away from challenging or un-mainstream roles, Alexander has run toward the kinds of projects that would make a meeker actor worry about the headlines. In 2025 alone, he’s played a soap-opera-obsessed robot and a leather-clad biker who likes to keep control. That’s range, baby.

And he’s using the red carpet to blend promotion with fashion. It could feel like cosplay or even a wink at the film’s themes, but he’s clearly having too much fun for it to be mean. Plus, he’s good at showing off in a way that invites good humor and admiration. I’m all in favor of more men taking risks on the red carpet over wearing yet another bland suit that’s indistinguishable from the 16 others they wore that year. Granted, it helps when you look like THAT, but you don’t see me complaining, do you?
