Cold Open — This week’s episode opens basically inside the “locker room” of the Republicans, who are celebrating the Kavanaugh confirmation as though they won the World Series. They’re taunting women, popping champagne Miller Lights, and generally behaving like jackasses. It’s like someone on SNL saw this real-life tweet and decided to turn it into a skit:

Big ups at least to Beck Bennett, who did an outstanding Mitch McConnell (I think that was Bennett), and Cecily Strong nailed Susan Collins’s voice, acknowledging that she’s “just one of the boys” now and that she’s gonna get her ass kicked in 2020 by Susan Rice (Oh my god! I didn’t realize Rice was a possibility, and I absolutely cannot wait to vote for her).

(Score: 5 out of 10 for the skit, but 9 out of 10 for the Susan Rice news)

Awkwafina Monologue — Awkwafina trots out some light, introductory jokes before taking a moment to thank Lucy Liu for opening doors for her by hosting SNL 18 years ago. Awkwafina is the first Asian woman to host since. It’s not a particularly funny monologue, but it’s still really cool. I wish the writers had shown up more for her tonight. (Watch here) (Score: 6 out of 10)

Dance Battle — Two tough street gangs face off in a dance battle, and while one features some “hardcore” hip-hop moves, the Awkwafina gang dances off to the Price is Right, Family Feud, and Jeopardy themes. Eh. It’s not funny, but you may look back on this as the best skit of the night. (Score: 5 out of 10)

Presidential Alert — A commercial for Cricket Wireless that basically turns all your Twitter jokes into a reality, which is to say that Trump’s Tweets start showing up as Presidential Alerts on our phones. A little obvious, but the made-up tweets were funny. (Watch Here) (Score: 5 out of 10)

The Hidden Tales of Egypt — The premise of this sketch is: What if Cleopatra had stylists? It is very bad, which is how the entire episode is shaping up. (Watch Here) (Score: 2 out of 10)

Ted Cruz Rally — Ted Cruz tries to throw a cool rally. It goes very poorly. He gives himself a bloody nose trying to dab. Not much to this skit, either. (Score: 4 out of 10)

Weekend Update — I genuinely don’t know what’s going on with Colin Jost and Michael Che, but they’re not pulling punches when going after Trump, Republicans, and especially Brett Kavanaugh. As someone said to me earlier this week (me WTF!), if even they are angry, things must be really bad (me? You’ve been reading the site for years! Do you just skip my morning rants and go straight to the comments?) Also, Don Jr. and the Dumb One showed up to talk about their father’s taxes, and while normally they’re the best part of “Update,” I just wanted Chost to go back to bashing Kavanaugh. Finally, Pete Davidson comments on Kanye’s unaired Trump rant from last week’s SNL and everything about it is fantastic. (Score: 9 out of 10)

Bachelor Magicians — What if it were a dating show, but all the eligible male contestants were magicians? It’s a very bad sketch, which makes it all the more bizarre that Leslie Jones cannot keep it together as host of the sketch. Sometimes, I like it when cast members break, but there should at least be a reason. (Watch Here) (Score: 2.5 out of 10)

Baby Shower — During a baby shower, one of the attendees invites her dog walker (Awkwafina), who makes things very awkward. Again, not a good skit, but again, Leslie Jones cannot keep it together. (Watch Here) (Score: 3.5 out of 10)

The Pumpkin Patch — A skit about an owner of a Pumpkin Patch confronting his employees about having sex with the pumpkins should probably be funnier than this is, but it has Kyle Mooney written all over it, and I DON’T appreciate the use of the Boyhood song here … OK. Fine. It was a little funny. (You’re going to love this one Mat) (Score: 5 out of 10)

Debette Goldry — It’s a bad show when even Debette Goldry is terrible. (Watch Here) (Score: 3 out of 10)
