Happy Mother’s Day, folks. And as my Mother’s Day gift to you, we’re going to skip right over the Osama Bin Laden cold open because, yeesh. Fortunately, Tina Fey’s fantastic singing monologue with Maya Rudolph put the Cold Open in the reahview. And look! Maya Rudolph, my favorite former “SNL” cast member who I didn’t like at all when they were on the show:
GOP Debate
Tina Fey pulls out the expected Sarah Palin impersonation: “I just hope the lamestream media won’t twist my words my repeating them verbatim.” Oh, and look: Darrell Hammond. What’s he been up to lately?
Mermaid
Hmmm. Meh. But Tina Fey looks great in a mermaid costume.

And holy sheet NBC, we don't need an ad every time you have a video. Do one out of every 3 or 4.

It was worth it, the whole hour and a half, just for the Black Eyed Peas slam.

Mother's Day in the UK is earlier in the year than in the US but Father's Day is on the same Sunday in the UK and US. I've always wondered why that is but in the days before Wikipedia I never knew where to find out. Now, I live in the world of the future and I shall rush to Wikipedia to investigate. Bear with me a few minutes...
It turns out that the answer is really, really boring. Carry on.

“I just hope the lamestream media won’t twist my words by repeating them verbatim.”
That's the new "I can see Russia from my house."
Body slam!

We're sorry, but the clip you selected isn't available from your location. Please select another clip.
Fuck you and the NBC you rode in on.

I'm sorry to say that not even my beloved Tina could deter from what an ungodly turd SNL has become. Every week I try-- I really freaking do but it's just gotten to the point...I just can't anymore.
And it's not that I don't like the players -- I even find some of the newbs pretty enjoyable, but I'm inclined to think that the writing staff has been replaced by an army of toilet-bowl brushes with laptops. The show is just so Goddamn awful, that even the mildly funny parts don't make up for the fact that it sucks monster taint.
It seriously hurts my head to say it, bc I've been a fan of the show for a long, long time, and I do like the cast. I just can't stand anything about the show anymore and it pisses me off! There is soo much awesomeness in the comedy community these days! Hilarity exists -- I experience it pretty regularly (cough, Community), but I feel like funny and SNL parted ways some time ago. And I have to cut the cord.
Boo.

You forgot the best part of the night- Ellie Goulding. She KILLED both of her performances.

when, oh when, will this nonsense about not seeing video clips if you don't live in the u.s. end?

Personally, my favorite lines of the night came from Kenan in the political skit. "For all you birthers out there who thought I was born a billy goat, your suspicions have been confirmed!" and "Vote for me, the black Lorax" both had me laughing pretty hard. Also, best Weekend Update line was about Obama being the first black man being asked to prove he murdered someone. Otherwise, most the episode was crap. I have mixed feelings on the Bolton bit. Mostly feel it was too long.
