So, some news: Hawkeye definitely survives Avengers: Endgame, and you can thank Disney+ for sharting that spoiler right into your eye by announcing a new limited series starring Jeremy Renner.

Variety reports:

The project is said to be an adventure series in which Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, will pass the torch to Kate Bishop. Bishop is a Marvel Comics character who took up the Hawkeye mantle after Barton. She is also a member of the group known as the Young Avengers.

As for why the hell this information couldn’t wait until after Avengers: Endgame has been in theaters, beats me. But I’m going to turn off Salty Mike for a minute because it sure sounds like we’re getting a series based on Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye run, so sign me up for all of that. In the meantime, this news seemingly bolsters the theory that Kate Bishop appears in Endgame, but Dave Trumbore at Collider is floating a darker outcome about whoever Hawkeye is seen training in the film.

WARNING: Potential Endgame spoiler.

I strongly suspect that Clint will be the only surviving members of the Bartons. That not only gives him the vengeful streak he’ll need in the movie but the dramatic and gritty gravitas Renner will have to bring to a Hawkeye who’s reluctant to train a protege who reminds him of his departed daughter.

For those of you missed my explainer post — How dare you? — Renner’s Hawkeye will be running around Endgame as Ronin, a darker, ninja-like vigilante who prefers murdering people in the face with swords instead of a bow and arrow. He also has a butt-stupid haircut.

So there’s a chance we’ll be seeing that whole mess reluctantly training a new Hawkeye. However, that’s operating under the assumption that Hawkeye’s family died in the Snapture. What I’d like to presuppose is… maybe they didn’t?
