Enough About Mom: Let’s Rank the Best TV Daughters

We’re in the middle of a daughter renaissance, and it’s time for the Bobby Drapers of the world to MOVE ASIDE. TV shows are focusing on daughters who are are going through some really intense sh*t more than ever before, whether it’s dealing with their parents’ true selves, speaking the truth, or, y’know, having to pretend to be related to the most quietly powerful men in Westeros. These daughters are more interesting than their brothers, but the more troublesome ladies can break a show, too—let’s never mention April from Gilmore Girls again, okay? These daughters below are poised to be, at least, interesting women.

14. Dana Brody, Homeland

Thankfully she’ll be on the show less next season since her father, well, you know.

13. Paige Jennings, The Americans
tvdaughters_paigejennings.jpg
Like Grace Florrick below, Paige is going through a heavy religious experience which her Communist parents just don’t understand (if only she had some Fresh Prince to relate to).

12. Charlotte Grayson, Revenge
tvdaughters_charlottegrayson.jpg
Poor Charlotte, she has no one to trust and everyone’s out to get her and she’s oh so lost.

11. Maddie Conrad, Nashville

Sure, she can sing, and sure, her real father’s the best option of the three men in Rayna’s life, but all she does lately is pout about her daddy issues.

10. Catherine Meyer, Veep

Because of that punch.

9. Alex Dunphy, Modern Family

She’s a live action Lisa Simpson, just snottier.

8. Grace Florrick, The Good Wife
tvdaughters_graceflorrick.jpg
Innocent ol’ Grace Florrick, she’s discovering her looks, boys, AND God.

7. Lisa Simpson, The Simpsons

Enough said.

6. Sue Heck, The Middle
tvdaughters_sueheck.jpg
Ever the optimist, Sue can put a smile on anyone’s face, braced or otherwise.

5. Amber Holt, Parenthood
tvdaughters_amberholt.png
Of everyone in the Braverman clan, Amber is the one that appeals to me the most out of the younger generation of the family clan. She does her own thing, gets messy, lives life, etc. She’s close to her mother, but not too close. She’s like Rory Gilmore with more attitude.

4. Lilly CK, Louie
tvdaughters_lillyck.jpg
While Jane is cute and all, Lilly is the wise, older daughter and big sister who’s there to reason and calm her sister and Louie.

3. Louise & Tina Belcher, Bob’s Burgers
tvdaughters_tinalouisebelcher.jpg
I couldn’t pick between the two, so I lumped them together. Louise is the adventurous one living out my dream of wearing bunny ears all the time, and Tina, oh Tina, she’s every woman’s inner butt-obsessed teen girl with a thing for zombies.

2. Sally Draper, Mad Men

From the lisp-y little girl who made her daddy Tom Collins to a husky-voiced teen who has seen far too much, Sally Draper’s rebellious stage will hopefully not ruin her future.

1. Arya & Sansa Stark, Game of Thrones

The orphaned daughters, Arya acts like her father and Sansa is growing to be like her mother. And everything turned out OK for them, so…UH OH.

Come next season, Nadia Chaudhury will add Baby Girl Knope/Wyatt to this list.
