15 Before They Were Famous Stars Who (Nearly) Showed Their Naughty Bits On MTV's "Undressed"

By Josh Kurp | Seriously Random Lists | July 25, 2012 | Comments ()

It was announced yesterday that MTV would be reviving House of Style, it's "iconic fashion series," in the words of one overeager Entertainment Weekly article (is there any other kind?). The series, which began in 1989 and lasted throughout the 1990s before finally being cancelled in 2000, was one of MTV's non-musical trademark series, right up there with sexy softcore soap opera Undressed, the favorite show of 14 year old boys without the Internet everywhere. It was wonderful, and unbeknownst to everyone then, the series was actually a big break for a fair number of actors and actresses who are still working today. Here are 13 of the most notable. (I tried to include screenshots from Undressed, but considering only season one and half of season two are available online, with no DVD release date forthcoming, you'll just have to imagine Gunn from Angel without his shirt on. Sorry?)

Re: The first sentence of this post:
"It's" is a contraction of "it is" (as in "It's not so hard to proofread").
"Its" is a possessive pronoun like "his" and "hers" (as in "He pulled his copy of Strunk & White off the shelf and blew the dust off its cover").

Please, Pajiba. Just print that out and force all of your contributors to print it out and tape it to their monitors.

  • teknohed

    you missed Jerry Trainor.

  • Sara Habein

    Bless that ridiculous show.

  • Whoever this Bree Turner person is, she looks like Eminem in a wig.

  • zeke_the_pig

How odd. Christina Hendricks gets less hot as time goes on. Also I am holiday so I might be drunk past the boundary of sense.

  • Fabius_Maximus

    Maybe it's just Hendricks overload?

  • e jerry powell

    I'm going with that one.

  • AlabasterSalamander

They shoulda just gone ahead and called this series "Blue Balls" and saved me a lot of time spent tensed on the couch listening for approaching footsteps at 1 AM.

  • EclipsetheSun

Speaking of softcore cable access shows, does anyone remember that show Bliss that used to be on the Oxygen network?

  • Snath

Christina Hendricks looks like a baby! Holy crap.

  • e jerry powell

I was struck by how much she resembled Lauren Ambrose back then, actually.

  • Snath

    Except with epic breasteses.

  • e jerry powell

    troo dat.

  • Jeremy Carrier

So even back in the day, MTV didn't show music

  • laylaness

1999 is "back in the day"? I guess that makes my music video memories from back in the Aeon Flux.

  • e jerry powell

No. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back in the day (like, 1981, when I was in junior high), MTV played nothing but music videos. By white people. Only white people, in fact.

  • Hiro_the_Eighth_Samurai

And it may be shocking to people now, but MTV refused to play videos by Michael Jackson because he was black. MTV executives said that Jackson didn't appeal to its audience, which is utterly ridiculous given that the Thriller album was a huge worldwide hit and the biggest in America. His label threatened MTV, saying that they wouldn't let the channel play any of its music videos unless they played MJ ones. They relented and it was Jackson's videos that changed MTV, made them lots of money and changed how music videos were made. Music videos today still owe a debt to MJ videos.

    Brand Routh is famous?

  • tremenator

He was in that small indie movie back in 2006. Can't remember the name. The one where he ran around in a red cape.

  • Aaron

He's in Scott Pilgrim. He's famous.

  • Pookie

By famous you mean people that were unknown years ago and are now semi-famous?

  • Sirilicious

And by semi-famous you mean people that could walk down 87 out of 88 streets without being recognized?

  • Kate at June

I remember one plot line about step siblings sleeping together. And another about learning blowjobs on a carrot.

    Weird show.

  • laylaness

    "learning blowjobs on a carrot."

STOLEN from Fast Times at Ridgemont High!

I feel like this should be a big part of my adolescent memories...and yet nothing. It's like I've had part of my spank bank surgically removed...
