15 Before They Were Famous Stars Who (Nearly) Showed Their Naughty Bits On MTV's "Undressed"

It was announced yesterday that MTV would be reviving House of Style, it’s “iconic fashion series,” in the words of one overeager Entertainment Weekly article (is there any other kind?). The series, which began in 1989 and lasted throughout the 1990s before finally being cancelled in 2000, was one of MTV’s non-musical trademark series, right up there with sexy softcore soap opera Undressed, the favorite show of 14 year old boys without the Internet everywhere. It was wonderful, and unbeknownst to everyone then, the series was actually a big break for a fair number of actors and actresses who are still working today. Here are 13 of the most notable. (I tried to include screenshots from Undressed, but considering only season one and half of season two are available online, with no DVD release date forthcoming, you’ll just have to imagine Gunn from Angel without his shirt on. Sorry?)

    "It's" is a contraction of "it is" (as in "It's not so hard to proofread").
    "Its" is a possessive pronoun like "his" and "hers" (as in "He pulled his copy of Strunk & White off the shelf and blew the dust off its cover").

    Please, Pajiba. Just print that out and force all of your contributors to print it out and tape it to their monitors.

    No. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back in the day (like, 1981, when I was in junior high), MTV played nothing but music videos. By white people. Only white people, in fact.

    And it may be shocking to people now, but MTV refused to play videos by Michael Jackson because he was black. MTV executives said that Jackson didn't appeal to its audience, which is utterly ridiculous given that the Thriller album was a huge worldwide hit and the biggest in America. His label threatened MTV, saying that they wouldn't let the channel play any of its music videos unless they played MJ ones. They relented and it was Jackson's videos that changed MTV, made them lots of money and changed how music videos were made. Music videos today still owe a debt to MJ videos.
