During her recent rounds for Carol Cate Blanchett dropped by to chat with Kimmel, and during the course of their conversation, the host “aggressively” pursued a certain Marvel rumor. **Spoiler: I’m about to discuss that upcoming Marvel film, so if you’re the sort who doesn’t care for rumored casting, you know the drill.***

Gonzo? Good.

As I was saying, the slightly stilted interview perks up when Kimmel asked Blanchett about her rumored involvement in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, which was seemingly confirmed by the Hulk aka Mark Ruffalo:

“I’m so thrilled. I saw her at the Governors’ banquet here and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, ‘Please, please, please make this work!’ She’s just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting.”

Rather than actually addressing the question head-on, Cate had a little fun with her response, and it only made us ache for her connection to become reality (well, Marvel reality). See for yourself (starts at the 1:56 mark).

If you aren’t able to watch at the moment, Blanchett’s leading question was, “Why can’t there be a female Thor?”

Of course the answer is, there can indeed (however, some of us are disappointed in the direction the rebooted Thor took) and we’d love to see — as Cate put it — “Chris Hemsworth is busy and um, so I’ve been working out…they’re just substituting one Australian for another.”

YES, PLEASE AND Loki says,

Seriously though, how thrilling would Blanchett as Thor be? My gods…

Meanwhile, interwebical speculation has has the actress possibly playing Hela or Amora aka the Enchantress. Frankly, I’m down with any of the above; the more fantastic actresses coming Marvel’s way, the better.
