The Screen Actors Guild Awards (full list of the winners here) were held last night and given the events that have unfolded in the last week, it’s no surprise that some of the acceptance speeches took a political turn. We were reminded what a nation of immigrants are capable of doing if faced with unity during a time of great divide. From Mahershala Ali’s impassioned speech to Julia Louis-Dreyfus accepting her speech using “alternative facts,” it was a night to celebrate and acknowledge the fact that through diversity, there is much art and beauty in the world and stories deserving of our attention.

There’s also this gem of an acceptance speech from Stranger Things’ David Harbour. Don’t feel bad if you can’t focus on the speech because of Winona Ryder’s face. It’s the most acting it’s done in a year.
