How is Matthew Broderick smiling so contentedly when that hawk is absconding with his toupee?

Posted by: superasente at October 10, 2011 4:06 PM

The trend is the vast majoirty were ripping off Drew Struzan (badly).

Posted by: TylerDFC at October 10, 2011 4:11 PM

@superasente, that one definitely caught my eye. As much as I LOVE "Ladyhawke", Philippe the Mouse in the poster just looks like a goofy teenager in a hoodie.

Young Sherlock Holmes! Killer cupcakes and mummifying people alive, whee!

I already didn't get what you were getting at, then I saw that.

What the hell is wrong with the drawing of Tanya Roberts in the James Bond poster? That alone killed the graphics designer.

Posted by: BWeaves at October 10, 2011 4:42 PM

I've never heard of School Spirit, but it looks like it might be the best movie ever made.

Posted by: Stef at October 10, 2011 5:06 PM

I guess that type of illustration went the way of the marker comp.

Posted by: lizella at October 10, 2011 5:46 PM

I love all of them and want to marathon all of those movies right now.

Posted by: DominaNefret at October 10, 2011 5:46 PM

I don't know if this genre of design is the answer, but I do know that the fine art of the movie poster (at least those officially commissioned by the studios) has greatly suffered as of late.

And what's Mama Fratelli doing behind the Goonies?

Posted by: DarthCorleone at October 10, 2011 6:27 PM

The Sure Thing is one of the best movies ever.

How is that chick in the Bond poster even standing? Her feet are somehow gripping the sides of that cable. Bond's knee in her crotch must be the only thing keeping her up.

Posted by: DeadBessie at October 10, 2011 9:11 PM

Maybe she starved herself to fit into the too-small dresses the costume designers made for that movie and became weightless?

Posted by: FabMax at October 10, 2011 9:25 PM

@DeadBessie
She isn't gripping the sides of the cable with her feet, she is gripping his leg with her thighs. Obvz.

You are looking at the legacy of the great Bob Peak. The man responsible for the Raiders of the Lost Ark poster as well as many others of its type. I'm afraid the style simply fell out of favor after waaaay too many TV Guide covers

Posted by: Protoguy at October 10, 2011 11:57 PM

That's BTTF II, which is from 1989. Your premise is therefore NULL AND VOID.

I miss the heady pre-photoshop days. Now get off my lawn.

Somebody get an adult; Marty McFly needs an adult.

Has James Bond finally met his match?

You mean the thick phallic cable between his legs or ..?

Not to slight Peak, but Richard Amsel did the original Raiders poster, and after his death Drew Struzan worked on all the subsequent posters for the series.

Poor Billy Batson -- hitting puberty was a downhill slide from the heroic days of being Captain Marvel to becoming a spectral peeping Tom. "SHAZAM!" indeed...

Posted by: Bates at October 11, 2011 11:24 AM

Volunteers was hilarious. Candy and Hanks = comedy gold.

I watched all the Bond movies back to back a few months ago and I learned one thing. The Roger Moore films suck. Big time.

Posted by: John W at October 11, 2011 12:03 PM

ah the 80's where sexual assault of legal minors was a comedy gold mine.

Posted by: Ben at October 11, 2011 10:49 PM

These posters are a damn site better than the lazy publicity stilled photoshop rubish we get today, whats the point of this post and what are you trying to say ?!?!?!

Posted by: Seth at October 12, 2011 5:13 AM

I remember all of these movies from Betamax tapes!
