In a world… about to end… it is time for Pajibans everwhere to take up the banner of AlabamaPink and read, read, READ!

2012 Is right around the corner, and so is Pajiba’s fourth race to read and review 52 books in a year. Cannonball Read IV will officially begin on January 1, 2012. The lovely Tamatha Uhmelmahaye has passed the baton to me, and I will be coaching, cheering, guiding, and prodding you on to finish your reviews before the year (and the world?) ends.

Since the Cannonball Read’s beginnings as a wager between Prisco and AlabamaPink, over three hundred Pajibans have read and reviewed thousands of books. In honoring the memory of our beloved AlabamaPink the Reads have not only raised money for the college fund of her son, Lil A, but have encouraged reading in a very substantial way. The current Cannonball Read, number three, has over 150 participants, with review posts numbering well over 1500. I think ‘Pink would be pleased.

You too, can join in on the fun this time around. CBR4 continues the tradition of its predecessor in encouraging as many people to read as much as they possibly can, so we are keeping the levels of whole (52), half (26), and quarter (13) Cannonballs.

We continue again with a brand new group blog. This year, all Cannonballers must join the group blog. You may post your full review there, but at the least, you must post links to your reviews on the group blog. Several selected reviews will appear on Pajiba weekly. To sign up for Cannonball Read IV, visit our blog and complete the sign-up form. You’ll need to provide your Pajiba-handle, your real name, email address, blog address (if you have one), Twitter account (if you have one), and your goal. If you have a Twitter account that you’d like me to “mention” when I tweet links to your reviews, please provide that too. You can also follow our progress on Twitter.

What are you waiting for? Get a head start on completing your goal by reading and reviewing now. You have until the end of the world or December 31, 2012, whichever comes first.

Visit the shiny new Cannonball Read IV blog for more information on fourth Cannonball Read.

I am about 5 books away from a triple cannonball for 2011 (I plan on working on reviews feverishly for the next few days). I can't wait until the new one begins! I think I will stick to reviewing 52 books in 2012. Reading and reviewing as much as I have has turned into a part time job :) I got away from reading during my college years because of all the studying so I'm thrilled that this competition has turned me back onto to something I truly love.

Hmmm. I signed up for a full CBR last year and failed. This year, I tried a half CBR and failed. Perhaps the third time's a charm and I can pull off a quarter CBR?

In any case, I'm glad to see it continuing! And that you'll keep posting reviews on Pajiba - I've gotten lots of great recommendations from Cannonballers!

I LOVE A CANNONBALL READ!

I'm looking forward to being a participant this year. Given the pitiful amount that I've read over the past two years, I think it's safest to go for the Quarterball (as I dubbed it while talking to the Main Squeeze last night--he found the term ridiculous) this year.

Fourth times the charm, right? I've failed spectacularly every year because I get caught up on the review aspect. It's not that I'm not reading well over 52 books a year every year. I read a lot more.

I'm signed up for a half run for IV. Maybe that'll let my anxiety settle enough if it comes down to one review every two weeks.

Sign me up! I'm actually on book #52 right now, and I'm about 20 reviews behind. I NEED to write those up and quick.

Posted by: figgy at December 8, 2011 10:29 AM

I signed up for the last one but didn't do one review because I'm afraid of the internet. I'm also afraid of Americans and the world and David Bowie. I have read fifty-odd books but I'll only sign up if I can do every review in haiku format.

Thanks everyone! So psyched for CBR4! Figgy, you have to sign yourself up. Visit http://cannonballread4.wordpress.com/sign-up/ and click the red button to get to the form.

While I'll miss out on reading time at the beginning of the year due to wedding stuff, I plan on doing some beach reading on the honeymoon and relaxing after we get married, so I'll be signing up for another half cannon (which I managed successfully this year!). :-)

I think that should be a requirement for CBR4, actually. I know I'd write a lot more reviews that way. They don't have to be good haikus, right?

Posted by: TylerDFC at December 8, 2011 11:42 AM

Sorry folks. You can include as many haikus as you want, but your review has to be at least 3 paragraphs.

Wait, Admin is scared
of the internet? I thought
moose knew no fear. Huh.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at December 8, 2011 12:10 PM

The mooses know fear
fear of an aroused admin
maple seduction

So can I write a three-haiku review, mswas? I'm really quite serious about this.

Posted by: admin at December 8, 2011 12:23 PM

admin wants haikus
mswas thinks about it, hmmm
three haikus will do

Caveat: If you stick to the haiku format, your reviews will be less likely to get posted on Pajiba.

But if reviewing books in haiku format means you're reading and being thoughtful about books, I'm game.

So, I am pretty new to pajiba but am thiking about doing this...only thing holding me back is the crap books I read and my shitty writing skills. Who knows, maybe I'll learn me something this year!

I love the pictures on the group blog so far, Mswas! Very nice indeed.

I'm 3 books away from a double Cannonball, and should be fine for finishing my reviews before New Year's. Think I'll settle for a single run next year, though, this year's made the blogging into quite a chore.

My husband's probably going to sign up too, he's been toying with doing a whole Cannonball based entirely on Doctor Who New Adventure novels. I don't doubt that he'll read them all, but it'll be nice to see if he blogs them all.

Posted by: Malin at December 8, 2011 3:44 PM

How many Doctor Who adventure novels are there?

Posted by: mswas at December 8, 2011 5:10 PM

Oh, there are hundreds, apparently, and he's read an upsetting amount of them already. But it's a specific series of books he's thinking of doing, the ones published by Virgin Publishing after the TV series went off the air but before the American TV movie. There are 61 of those, and he's only read two or three of them. Since he's a huge nerd, he sees this as a gap which needs filling.

(He would also like it to be known that he does read other things as well)

Tell him to join Cannonball Read 4 and prove it!

its not taking my email address when i am trying to sign up on the survey. is there an email i can send with all my info

Posted by: Alyson at December 8, 2011 9:55 PM

Woohoo! I'm in for a halfsie (26) this year (though would like to pass it) because of other life-related things. I need to read/review a couple more books to complete a Baker's Cannonball (53!) for this year. In CBRII, I reached a frustrating 51 books, so that's why I'm aiming for 53 in 2011.

I took the plunge! I'm in!!! I bet you all can't wait to read the reviews on easy breezy beach reads!!

Posted by: jenniferk525 at December 9, 2011 10:43 AM

I am just finishing my half CBR, although I am behind in my reviews. I would like to do a whole one this year, but we will see. Thanks for taking the project on, mswas.
