Kate Beckinsale has a lot going on at the moment. Her stepfather, former film and television director Roy Battersby, died in January.
Later that month she tried to get him included in the In Memorium segment of the 2024 British Film and Television Arts ceremony in May, and was told they “could not guarantee” he would be included.
“So a man dead less than a week somehow has to audition in front of a committee after a decades-long career…to decide IF his death is worth mentioning,” she wrote on Instagram in response. She described the email she received from the people at BAFTA as “horribly cold.” A few days later she posted a screenshot of a message from someone at the organization who claimed to have spoken to the CEO of BAFTA, relaying apologies. She wrote in that caption that “BAFTA has said he will be included in their segment” but that she has not heard from them.
Then she sparked concern a couple of days ago when she posted a carousel of images in honor of her mother for Mother’s Day in the UK, including pictures of herself in a hospital bed looking very unwell and clad in a giant bow headpiece for no apparent reason.
“Kate Beckinsale hasn’t been doing or feeling well. She was supposed to go to the Vanity Fair Oscars party and had to cancel. She is doing her best to take care of herself, but it’s not a great situation,” a source told Entertainment Tonight.
This morning she posted an Instagram story from the hospital with her cat:
Beckinsale has a history of being public about her health struggles. In 2019 she posted similar photos from the hospital after suffering a ruptured ovarian cyst.
And in November of last year, she shared a picture of herself post-dental surgery.
We don’t yet know the reason for her current hospitalization.
